Here is an opportunity to birth your own sacred, Native American-style frame drum. We will be making 16” drums with maple or yellow cedar frames and elk hides.

This all-day workshop incorporates ceremony, journeywork, and healing with drum making. The ending time is fluid – the workshop ends after everyone has completed their drum, and I’ve found people’s skills at this can vary widely. Often it’s sooner, occasionally later. Closing ceremonies are important, so plan to stay until we are all done.

The cost is $295 – a $125 non-refundable deposit is required two weeks prior to the event for materials, with the balance due at the workshop. This is to secure your spot (there is a minimum and a maximum number of participants) and insure timely delivery and preparation of materials. Cash, Credit card, PayPal, or personal check accepted.

Payment plans and a limited number of partial barter may be available.

Frame drums have a rich history, providing the heartbeat of ceremonies around the world for tens of thousands of years. They are generally considered to be the first type of drum made and there are many styles of drums and methods of playing in pre-historical, historical, and contemporary cultures. For our workshop, we’ll use a construction technique adapted from the Salish tribe of the Pacific Northwest.

Drums are best birthed when the maker has clear intentions and holds her prayer well. With this in mind, our preparatory ceremony work will draw on a variety of traditions. You will be asked to sit with the idea of birthing your own drum ahead of time, and then during the workshop, state your intentions for making and using the drum. You will be encouraged to call in any particular spirits or energies to empower your drum. The cutting, layout, and lacing of the drum is a very rewarding journey in its own right. Add your intention and prayer and you will most definitely birth a sacred drum.

A little about Dan: I have studied clairvoyance, spirit communication, and the healing powers of crystals. The ceremonies used in these workshops are influenced by these studies, as well as my work with Vermont Druids, Ecuadorian Shamans, and lessons drawn from numerous workshops and readings over the years. My call to drumming reaches back to my earliest childhood memories and continues to renew itself. I’ve found that I have a gift for birthing drums, and I’ve been called to make these spiritual tools available to others. I use prayer, intention, and the power of various crystals to empower my drums to bring a needed voice to the world. Each one is unique in its song and energy. By creating a sacred space in which to do this work, I find peace in the process and great joy in the completion. I’m sure you will, too.
