Double action and reversible candles

Double action candles are 6 inch or 9 inch cylinders that are half black and half another color— red for love, green for money, white for blessings. They send trouble back to the person who sent them and are called “double action” because they both repel jinxes and attract what is desired.

These candles are “butted” before they are lit. The original tip is cut off and a new tip is cut on the black half, so the bad luck will burn off first, leaving the good luck at the end.

How to dress the candle: Inscribe the enemies name backwards in the black half and your own name normally in the colored portion. Apply reversing oil to the black end, stroking away from yourself, and a second helping of reversing oil to the colored half, stroking towards yourself.

Once butted, they are placed on a mirror and dusted with reversing sachet and/or circled counterclockwise with a ring of crab shell powder because “crabs walk backwards” and uncross jinxes).

Note: it is not necessary to set them according to the planetary rulership, but folks who work that way turned back money Jinxes on Thursday, love jinxes on Friday, and health Jinxes on Sunday.

Another way to burn a double action candle is to carve a second tip on the black end, dress it as described above, and stick it at the mid-point onto a nail that has been driven through a board. The nail holds a candle horizontally, like a compass needle. Point the black half towards the enemy and the colored half towards yourself. Light both ends at the same time. This is a messy burn, so use a metal pan lined with aluminum foil to confine the dripping wax.

Reversing candles, also called reversibles, have a red core and a black outer layer. The red shows through at the tip. They are butted, dressed, and dusted as above, and burned upside down on a mirror, but all the names are inscribed backwards, in mirror writing. Reversibles can be made into rolled candles, too, using black wax doused with reversing oil, agrimony, Crabshell powder, Rue, and Aspand, finished by rolling them in shards of mirror glass.
